Bought Boat and engine with a running problem.
Boat Orkney strikeliner16 plus I was told the engine had gone into limp mode. Probably due to low 2stroke oil but had not reset when oil topped up. When I tested it I found fuel at the air filter end but not a great deal. so not burning all fuel. This I had professionally checked and found all clear. They also said it was running full speed as it should. I used it a few times and would still not go much over 8 Knots.
I and a big bloke and the boat has two anchors the ships dog and my wife on board along with fuel so I am not expecting it to be fast 12 to 14 knots and I would be happy. Manufacture quotes 22knots in ideal conditions with a whippet at the helm. But I am a realist. I have looked at the prop size and pitch which looks to be correct 9.9 and 10 pitch. Manufacturer recommends 25hp four stroke this is a 30hp two stroke. I have just been looking at the Auto lube system and it looks as though the engine despite its age has a limp mode.
There is a float switch in the auto lube tanks. quotes as magnetic, my question is can i remove this (temporarily just to check) by shorting out the 3 wires attached.
And finally what does the switch control to reduce speed. It is too old for a sophisticated ECU controller.
If you can help you will have my unfailing gratitude.#Regs
