Volvo Penta D-11 2019. 2 engines

by Debbie
(Ft Pierce City Marina)

Out on the ocean and the port engine just quit. The screen said to turn engine off and restart and then have it checked at next stop. We happen to be heading to Ft Lauderdale for the engines annual check up anyway. They did the yearly service, computer auto config after service and they said all was good. They said maybe (they were guessing) water or moisture got inside. So next day we headed up to Ft Pierce City Marina. Everything ran smooth. Next day we got gas and went to restart engines and port engine wouldn't start. See uploaded picture of what the screen says. Can anyone help us?

It says on the screen: Check EVC system
Control unit has communication fault. Possible loss of function and /or engine synchronization. If possible continue your journey and contact a Volvo Penta Workshop at next stop.

What does this mean? We are afraid to try and start engine and get out on the ocean and lose the port engine again.
