Volvo Penta AQD 21/250 engine and outdrive. Year is 1968.

The engine had been running normally up to a couple of months ago. Owner said he couldn't start the engine one day, just got a click form the starter. Got the starter checked, but it turns out the engine won't turn over.
I got a big socket with a long 3/4" extension bar on the front and couldn't get a move. Removed injectors and tried unsuccessfully to turn flywheel using a pinch bar in the starter ring gear.
Now trying to remove the engine to see if the problem is in the engine or the stern drive. The 2 front mounts are removed, and all cables, pipes etc. disconnected, should the engine pull away from the stern drive now ( we've tried and it won't) . Do I need to undo the bolts around the flywheel bellhousing? or , is there something to be undone from the stern drive side?
Many thanks for any advice on this.

Peter Curran.
