TAMD 31 p-a 2003

This is a just rebuilt engine. The engine blows a lot of black smoke between 2000 and 3000 rpm. Turbo gauge 4 psi-2000. 7 psi 3000 and 15 psi at 3900. Have done compression test 352 psi all cylinders. Changed injector pump still the same. Had turbo looked at - no obvious damage pressure checked intercooler ok. Injectors tested all good. Aircleaner good. If boost gauge correct pressure low. Help what could cause low boost and not listed above.
Cheers
Greg

Problem solved
by: Greg NZ

The fuel injector company supplied the wrong injectors. Although they look identical the internals are vastly different. This can be checked by a 3 digit number stamped in top of the injector.

Since the original post I have checked valve clearances all good. My latest idea is perhaps the engine has wrong injectors as these were purchased from uk and rebuilt here in nz before installation and though they look the same they might have different nozzles or settings .They we’re supposed to be for this engine but who knows. It would certainly explain the problem I’m having if the pop pressure was different it would alter timing causing incomplete combustion and lowering exhaust pressure and that would lower boost perhaps. Will keep you posted.
