stern drive moving back and forth when idling-hard to control

New to stern drive boat. Boat is hard to control when idling. Once get out of no wake zone and throttle up no problem. What am I doing wrong??

You aren't doing anything wrong, its the nature of the beast. My suggestion would be to just keep the wheel centered and it will move back and forth and you will go relatively straight. Don't keep fighting it....
