Mercury Tracker 40 hp 2 stroke 4 cylinder

Changed out water pump now I have no reverse or neutral and it starts up in gear. Need help to understand how to get in back to normal. Thank you

When removing the lower end to replace the water pump parts i did not have the throttle in a forward position. What do I need to do, if anything, when i put the lower unit back in place?

I figured out the problem with the shifter only in forward gear. The shifter shafts weren’t lining up together and I wasn’t aware of it. I’m new to this and wasn’t aware of the alignment now I know. It works great now. Now I need help in why my tachometer doesn’t always work it seems to start working the longer your on the and doesn’t work out of the water. Thanks
