Mercury ELPTO 1989

2-Stroke "Tower of Power" motor runs smooth up to 2800-3200 rpm then begins to miss (rpms up and down), then surges like crazy. Replaced fuel in tank, fuel/water separator, new fuel line assembly, and vent. Still happens.

Same issue on 1986 115
by: CharlieB

I have same issue on 1986 114 4 cylinder, I have changed the fuel pump and lines, squeeze ball, filters, stator, coil packs, and circuit board.
Mine was running great until flywheel lost 4 magnets, now won't accelerate past 3/4 throttle.

loss of power

Have you replaced the fuel pump? Had the same problem once and had a very small piece of foam stuck in fuel line. When it happens check fuel bulb to see if its hard when this happens. Could also be the carbs with a stuck float. Good luck
