Mercury 60elpt efi 2006

by Bruce
(Perth Australia)

I bought this motor as a clearance in 2009 in Delaware USA ( new in crate) I then moved to Australia, and the motor stayed in the crate until 2 days ago.... yes that’s right I have a brand new 14 year old motor. I’ve hung it on the boat , done all the Pre start checks, the kill switch is in the run position, got good fuel all the way to the filter, plenty of battery, got ear muffs and water, cranks very strong, won’t fire, won’t start .

Ethanol Dust
by: Bruce

Thanks for your comment. Turns out the gas used for the test start at the factory had evaporated over time leaving the ethanol dust throughout the fuel system. Consequently the dust had rendered the high pressure pump as useless, literally honey coloured powder through the internal filter and the pump.
I should have identified this earlier as I also bought back with me a Wellcraft Nova 23 (go fast) with a 454 magnum.... the ethanol enhanced fuel had evaporated in that also after it sat for 18 months causing me to have to replace all the fuel lines and have the carby refurbished...... gotta love that high content ethanol fuel.

Fuel pump problem
by: Anonymous

It might be the fuel pump not working, it’s located inside of VSP, very easy to replace it or you can remove the pump and test it as well (you can find video on YouTube), I had similar situation/problems for mine
