Mercury 50ELPTEFI 2006 S# 1C012269

Hi,

On my 2006 Mercury 50 hp four stoke engine
the motor starter will not energize to turn the motor over.

I had the safety kill switch up and lanyard on it
I had an auditable alarm tone, but no starter turning
I had the trim and tilt on motor working

I was told to replace the battery

I replaced the battery and cleaned up the battery terminals. Now I have the same problem plus the alarm tone and the trim and tilt does not work.

Where do I start to trouble shoot these concerns?

Any help would be appreciated.

This engine is on a 2006 Stacraft Classic 200 pontoon,
Thanks,
Mark

Check Neutral Position Switch
by: John

That is a start point, if you have checked all major connections from battery out and you have checked same on control wiring then time to look at things that can stop the engine form starting. I popular causes is a faulty neutral position switch so check that out. Check that the motor is actually going into neutral. The same applies to safety lanyards as well, if its faulty then you dont get a start. I have seen faulty ignition switches as well. I would also check the starter solenoid connections, if the connection is faulty, a wire break not visible even within a connector can cause start issues. If it doesnt "click" then the solenoid may not be energizing and thats usually a connection issue.
