The enginee is reliable but over about 12 knots the revs want to drift and I have to pull the throttle back to stop it running away. When I pull it back it'll drift down. It'll only wants to stay at a fixed RPM if at or below about 12 knots. Is this the carby needle valve?

A boat mechanic told me it was an electrical problem that could cost thousands to fix and that these are unreliable engines. Is this true?
