I have the subject motor. The driveshaft seals below the water impeller are leaking badly and need to be replaced. When I try to remove the large housing that the seals are in I can only get it up about 1/2 inches. I want to slide it up the driveshaft to remove it and easily get to the seals. It goes up about 1/2 inches then makes a metal on metal click. I "think" its the bearing hitting something?? I know I need to be careful because there is a small ring/clip on the bottom of the driveshaft that cannot be broken. This is a saltwater motor and no way can I get into the gears of the lower unit. Attached is a pic. How can I carefully remove the water pump- holder without doing more damage??
