Boat Revs and Bounces

by Justin
(Kyle Texas)

So I just bought a used boat and having some issues that nobody seems to know how to fix. When I hit the accelerator the boat starts out fine. Once it hits 4000rpms it makes a really loud over rev sound and the boat starts bouncing even on calm water. I had it check out and they said the compression was good. I bought a hydro foil which fixed some of the planning out but still hits 4000rpms revs loud and starts bouncing like crazy! Please help! Thanks.

Porpoising
by: Bruce

Have the plastic hub inside of your prop checked out it may be slipping.
When the plastic hub slips on the output shaft it can't turn the prop when it does engage it will spin the prop like it's supposed to giving you that power no power effect causing the boat to lunge in the water like a porpoise.
Have a propeller shop check out your propeller for you.

Spun hub

Have you checked your prop hub?Awhile ago my Yamaha motor did the same thing and ended up being a spun hub on my prop.

are you sure your motor is long enough for your transom, your cavitation plate is parallel to the bottom of your transom and hull

Power Trim
by: Anonymous

I have a 1989 Tracker Tournament 1800, it's a 18 ft. fiber glass boat. The motor is a evenule 110. It has power trim and works great. The motor is trimmed all the way down. I have played with the trim for hours and taking off slow, fast, medium and nothing helps. How I can describe it is I pull throttle down, boat takes off starts to plane out and then hits 4000 RPMS and sounds like the motor is going in over drive like it's rev'n up, once I back off it stops...once on plane the boat starts bouncing up and down like crazy even on calm water. Once it gets to around 25mph it rides great. It really makes no sense. I have had the carb rebuilt and compress check was good.

trim it
by: Anonymous

what type of boat engine size how long is it are some questions that really need answered. It sounds like you have a outboard motor and the trim is not right. , If you have a power trim trim your motor all the way down the over revving is probably the motor is trimmed to far back and the bouncing is what is known as porpoising. if you don't have power trim set the trim pin all the way down
