As you can see it connects up but no clasp

Hi I’ve recently bought a second hand engine for my boat and fitting the throttle cables I found that there’s no way of locking them in position. You can connect them up but the only thing holding them in is the rubber bung. So the engine isn’t managing to get full throttle or change gears easily as it doesn’t have the force to do so. I’ve tried watching videos and all others have a clasp or somewhere there part of the cable locks in. Is my engine missing this or is there another way of doing so. Thanks Jack
