2019 mercury 40 hp 4 stroke efi 1F40413LZ

Motor has an aftermarket stainless prop at idle speed in gear it makes a clunking sound. The prop moves on the spline about 1/8 inch fore and aft.

Thanks that was my supposition. I would think that an aftermarket prop would come with the specific thrust washer for the motor it is being put on. I think the original owner used the washer for the aluminum prop vice the washer the stainless prop needs.

Sounds like the thrust washer is not thick enough to take out all the slack.
