I have a 2006 z21 Ranger with a 2006 Yamaha VMax HPDI motor. When trying to plane the motor will die before it gets on plane. It shuts off like you would turn the key off if it had one. After messing with it, I found that if I would trim it up about 1/4 of the way, it would plane just fine. Before I took it out, I had the boat serviced. The service included changing all of the fuel filters and cleaning the screen in the fuel system that can get clogged. I don't know much about that other than they always recommend that this is done. It feels to me that it acts like it is electrical, as it doesn't studder, or slowly did. It just died. It always starts right back up.
