Was going out fishing, we hit a sand bar. I could see the motor was kicking up a lot of sand. We went offshore about 10 miles the engine was running good. After fishing we started back in. We were running and the over temp light and alarm was going off. We stopped and let it cool down. started again and was running good then did it again. We let it sit a few and started back in the alarm never came back on or the overheat light. I only change the water pump one time in 25 years. Figured I would change it. I bought a kit off of Amazon with thermostats. Replaced everything and started to overheat. Put another pump kit in. I could see that the thermostats were working because they were open when I took them out. Hooked up a hose on the pipe going to the block. Water was coming of the pisser and the thermostats area. While the lower unit was off, we hooked up a hose on the intake of the lower unit and turned the shaft while the pump was on and the pump was pumping water was higher with faster speed. Put everything back together and after a few minutes the alarm went off and the light was on. Now I order an OMC Pump kit and it's coming in tomorrow. If this does not fix it. Am lost and don't know what to do. I really don't want to take the heads off.
