1995 Volvo Penta 350 Cu. In. (Chevy ) Engine

Took it out for first time since last year and after idling out through No Wake Zone I pushed it up to 2000 rpm. In a few minutes it was running hot, 200 degrees F. on gauge. Shut it down and waited until it cooled down. Restarted and in a few minutes it was running hot again. Called Sea Tow and they towed back to marina. Engine is cooled via flow through water. Upon return I pulled the cooling pump to examine impeller and pump bearings, all good. Hoses all good. Any ideas?

Sounds like the T/stat needs to be replaced…
