1992 Chaparral Prop Stopped turning

We took the boat out for the first time this summer and we were doing about 35-40 mph and suddenly the boat slowed down and the engine sounded like it had slipped out of gear....? The prop wouldn't turn when we tried to give it gas.... What would this be due to? And is there anyway to fix it myself....? Like today?

Have you ever checked the fluid in the lower unit?
Go to a auto parts supply and get a quart of lower unit fluid it's 80 to 90 weight oil. On the bottom side of your outdrive their is a plug ,a screw driver slot ,find it then up on the side ,maybe half way up ,you will see another one, your oil now ,take the cap of and cut the tip of , then unsrew the bottom plug, put the tip of your oil in hole and then unscrew the top one and take it out . Then squeeze the oil bottle untill oil comes out the top plug, then screw in the top plug first then screw in the bottom plug. Thats it . Have fun . Don
