I have a 40 hp Johnson workhorse I bought a used 1989 Lowe pontoon 19 foot that it was on it had not been run in a couple of years. We finally got it running It would go into reverse a couple of times then it reved up and jumped into reverse then it would not go into reverse. We don't have the fancy equipment that a regular mechanic would have. we spun the shift rod now it is in reverse but wont go into forward we have neutral also any suggestions
