1987 115 Johnson outboard.

Engine will start and run when in a bucket.. put into lake, and the motor will die when going into gear. The cables appear to be in proper placement. but dies when put into gear on lakes.. Help Plz

A bucket of water and on the lake or two different scenarios, example: there's more resistance on the prop in the lake and there is in a bucket. Sounds to me like maybe the carbs are out of adjustment. If this problem started fairly recently you could have dirt in the carburetors clogging your idle ports.
