I have a 83 35hp johnson , it was loosing power while out on the lake one day and eventually died on me ,after inspection I found it had only 30 psi of compression, I pulled the head and replaced the head gasket and rechecked compression and it was back up to 135 in each cylinder. Also both cylinders appeared to be in fantastic shape, I could still see cross hatch in both cylinders. Put everything thing back together and it fired right up but when I took it to the lake it had zero power when wide open and would shutoff after I would attempt to run it wide open..now it will not start at all
