have a 1986 mercruiser inboard starts and idols fine runs to about 1800 rpm and falls out when increased throttle rapidly what is the problem? I can mess with the throttle by moving it back and forth and get it to about 3000 rpm does fine but from 1800 to 3000 wont go is it a carb problem or a fuel pump problem?

Same problem, lack of speed

I had my shift cables adjusted at a repair shop 9 months ago for my Alpha one outdrive on a Mercruiser I/O when it wouldn't go into forward. engine seems to run fine but does not get to full speed, like it needs to shift into a higher gear. Any solutions?

The engine has a fuel pump that maintains a constant pressure, so if it was a fuel pump the engine would surge....it really sounds like you need to get a kit and rebuild it...
