Honda 15hp 1992 outboard.

Hi all, I have the dreaded intermittent fault. Hard to start most days, sometimes starts but backfires or seems to be missing. Sometimes starts and runs beautifully. On bad days, jiggling the wires around the coil and cdi can make
it run well. Put the lid back on and dead. Too unreliable to use. So far checks are, carby clean, new plugs, new plug leads, all wiring checked. Good green oil pressure light, kill switch. Must be either coil or more likely cdi.
I don't really like the idea of spending $350 on a cdi from Honda here in Australia just as a confirmation test. Especially with useless service from both them and local dealers. If I knew for sure maybe, but the engine ain't worth much more
than a cdi and coil. Especially if I bolt them on and nothing changes. Has anyone used the generic two cylinder units on places such as Ebay? Original unit is Shindengen branded.
