Boat won't die after being started

I finally got my boat to running and running well. But I went to turn the key off and the boat kept running. What do you think could be my problem?

I just had this problem with 1984 Johnson. The problem was a ground wire. I went through and cleaned and retightened all the connections I could find ( black wires or Black with yellow stipe ). works great now.
