1996 Mercury 175 EFI outbaord motor

I have a 1996 Bayliner Rendezvous deck boat that I have had for several years. Cylinder 3 is dead and I have to repower this beast. There appear to be two different shaft length for this motor, 20" and 25". I have combed the internet for any mention of the shaft length that my boat should be using. Can anyone point me to a resource that would lead me to the right motor? What would happen if I needed a long shaft and put a short shaft on or vice versa? Thanks in advance for dropping some knowledge on me.

Rendezvous Question
by: Robert

Totally off your topic but I own a 92 Rendezvous and can't find a dimension for the distance between the hull centers. The boat is in the water so I can't measure easily. I need to know the distance between the hull centers so I can get a trailer that will work. If yours is out of the water and you can measure that dimension I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
