Yamaha C90, 1997

Hi all. I am in the process of removing the tilt and trim unit from my Yamaha C90 1997 motor and I believe that the starboard side motor mounting bracket must be moved slightly to the side to allow the T/T unit to be removed. I have the mounting bolts removed, the unit disconnected, the steering cable and bolt on steering tube loosened, but the motor mount bracket does not seem to want to move down steering tube. I sprayed every thing with penetrating spray and taped with a mallet in hopes that it might loosen up. Any advise or suggestions on how to do it or if I am missing something. Thanks

tilt tube removal

David..If your pic is showing what u call trim tilt unit..its not..thats the tilt/pivot tube where the steering cable goes.(trim/tilt unit is hydraulic motor & ram inside the motor bracket)..unless u have a hoist /cherry picker attached to lifting bracket (under the cowling) dont do what i think your trying to do....You have to take the weight of the tilt tube BEFORE attempting to remove it...and remove the steering cable first...Once you take the weight off the motor bracket it shud come out...Sometime corrosion forms between dissimilar metals..(steel& alum)..unscrew nuts & lightly tap tube with aluminum or soft brass fro left side..(where the steering arm connects to steering cable) blaster or any lubricant will be your friend..lol
