Which Qualifications are needed?

I am 17 years old and i am desperate to break the routine of school to work on an oil rig. i have achieved highly until this point, and i know i am expected to go on to University, but i am fascinated by oil-rigs yet there are no places for those with no real qualifications. what should i do????
