Temp Gauge reads hot but motor is cool and alarm goes off???

Hi there, We just traded for a 1987 Ranger and took it to the lake today and had some issues with the temp gauge and the alarm goin of but the motor was cool...we didn't make it 300ft. The thermostats are removed, it's a 175hp Mercury...Also, there was moisture in the gauge after this happened....We would let it cool down then try it again and just as soon as it planed out, it happened again...Do you have any suggestions for this?? I'm wondering if it could possibly be the gauge or thermostat (even tho it's removed) I certainly don't want to pay 12k for a new motor... Thanks so much!! |
