STCW/BASIC OFFSHORE SAFETY COURSES REQUIRED TO BE DONE FOR JOINING OIL RIG?

(C.R.RAMANATHAN)

I am a radio officer from chennai, india with about 12 years sailing experience on merchant navy ships. I want to shift to oil rigs. I had approached a few oil rig companies. I had done the advanced stcw 95 courses required to be on board ships. But the oil rig companies want me to do the basic stcw 95 courses again as they state the lifetime of the certs is 3 years only whereas my certificates are valid for lifetime.

Hence I would like to know what are the course required to join oil rigs(basic stcw 95 courses or the BOSIET courses are enough). Which of the two is enought for joining oil rigs, either basic stcw 95 courses or BOSIET courses? Also is HLO certificate mandatory?

ANSWER
That is right only 2 to 3 years validity, BOSIET course is what you must have that includes HUET (helicopter underwater escape training)
