shifting from neutral to reverse

1986 Renken 2.5 litre with an OMC outdrive
I have a 1986 Renken 2.5 litre with an OMC outdrive. When I shift from neutral to reverse, if you go to slow it will stall. I have now got used to it but I am trying to sell the boat and I thought I could make it better. This type works like this. There are 3 stops. Neutral to a stop where you are in reverse and the prop turns in reverse and from here you can give it more gas. Attached you will see 2 photos where I think the adjustment takes place. The 1st photo shows it is in neutral and the 2nd photo shows it in reverse at the second stop. The prop is now turning slow. From here you can give it more gas. I hope I made this clear for you.
