shift cable...

sounds like the lower shift cables are binding when it shifts and it activating the shkft kill switch...if you dissconnect the shift cable going to the drive it should move in and out easy if not it will kill the engine when you shift...if it is not easy then either the cable is bad or the shift linkage at the drive needs to be cleaned...A drive service every couple years will stop it from happening...
