outboard engine problem

i think I wrotte before about this but dont remember,my problem is i start my 40 horse for a minute and then it shots off,i rebuild the carb many times because i was told that the needle but dont see nothing wrong,i took od the plug on the carb and i see gas coming out,so i think there is gas now dont know if maybe is coming to much in the carb and thats why is shotting off just an example not that am saying that could be the problem,some told me to ck the fuel pump to see if it is working wail is running,any susjections
