OMC 400 putting water in engine compartment

by Steve
(Sacramento, Ca.)

1981 Beach-craft 17 1/2" OMC with little Chevy 4 cylinder motor runs good. My last trip though, it started pupping water in the engine compartment. I though she was going to sink. All hoses, exhaust manifold, are tight. No water leaking and water temperature stayed below normal operating. When I throttle up more water would come in the engine compartment. Is this a simple fix?
Thank you,
Steve

Please note: That water is coming in between engine block and stern drive, filling engine compartment faster then the bilge pump can pump it out. Thank God for a bait bucket. lol
