Oil Rig Jobs and Felony

I have been a good citizen most of my life but made a mistake over 5yrs ago and got a felony, nothing I would think would be to serious as far as a crime. But breaking laws is serious. But I was convicted of recieving and concealing stolen property, nothing violent. I didn't do it on purpose but after I figuered it out I didnt report it to the police which made me quality.
Now Ive been a self employed flooring installer for 7 years but as we all are aware housing market has crashed. Im looking to get a job on a oil rig of shore, I'm single and kidless I would think that would be perfect for that kind of job.
Can you have a felony and get a job on a oil rig? I have a friend who I know that retired from transocean who can get me a job but I don't want to embarress him when they tell him about my past. So save everyone the hassle I'm tryng to research this situaton first, any comments would be helpful thanks
