No fuel gauge reading on my northstar M121

I have a 2005 Mercruiser 5.0L MPI which is connected to a Northstar M121 through a SmartCraft Northstar gateway for single engine and the fuel usage and tank fuel remaining to be shown.

I then had a engine running problem which was traced to the fuel pump giving too much pressure they fitted a second hand one to check it and all worked correctly so a new one was fitted. Unfortunately the season came to an end so th boat was not taken out until 5 months later when we noticed that the fuel info eg fuel remaining and usage was not being shown .we found that when we entered the fuel in the tank amount after filling up it would disappear when the M121 was switched off.
Not sure if that is to do with the engine SmartCraft CAN feed or the M121. But we get water pressure and Oil Pressure from the SmartCraft feed.
Does a new pump have to be set up to the Engine ECM?
Is there a battery in the M121 that keeps the tank fuel amount in memory, though other data entries do not seem to be lost.
Any ideas?
