Motor won't trim up

I was fishing the other day and all of a sudden the motor would not trim up. It makes no sound when I try to get it up but when I do it down it makes a sound as though it is going down but it is all the way down. What can I do to get it up. It is a 50 hp mercury motor. thanks, Kim
