Motor won't trim up

by Kim Robinson
(Sandersville, Ms.)

I was fishing the other day and all of a sudden the motor would not trim up. It makes no sound when I try to get it up but when I do it down it makes a sound as though it is going down but it is all the way down. What can I do to get it up. It is a 50 hp mercury motor. thanks, Kim

I just had the same problem. Turned out to be the seals inside the cylinder were dry rotted and busted up causing hydraulic fluid to leak out around the ram

outboard trim

It sounds as if your power trim motor is going bad or you need hydraulic fluid. You can bypass the hydraulics by turning the air screw located on the side of hydraulic reservoir. this will allow you to atleast lift the motor and lock in place for trailering.
