Mercury,60hp 4 stroke, 2007

Suddenly the engine will not turn over. When I turn the ignition key, I get the usual beep at first position, then when key is turned, nothing. Starter does raise the gear to engage. Starter is 1 year old.

Battery is full charged
Fuel is full
Hydraulic lift works
All gauges move when key is in on position

Thxs in Advance

My son found that if he pushed down on the kill switch the engine would start. I had been pushing up on the kill switch only.

If the key turns and nil happens check the following

1. Battery terminals, remove, clean, and then refasten tight

2. Check and tighten the main cable to starter solenoid,

3. Check and tighten negative cable terminal at motor

4. Check and tighten terminal on other side of solenoid

5. Check and tighten terminals on starter motor

6. Check voltage at solenoid coil, get someone to turn key, check if voltage is there. If there is and no activation then solenoid coil may be suspect

7. If no voltage when start with key or button, then look for loose terminal on back of switch

8. Key switched can fail, last resort. If no voltage coming off back of key switch then contact in keyswitch faulty
