Mercury Verado 300 2007

The center engine stopped shifting into forward. It stayed in neutral but I was able to shift into reverse. This happened about 3 shifts after the lower unit was repaired. It also gave me a shift actuator warning on. I was able to observe the actuator trying to move into gear however it would move left and right several times and then make a warning. So I removed the actuator and shifted the lower unit manually while turning the prop to lock in the gears. It seemed to shift into forward, neutral, and reverse properly. I also checked the neutral switch and it closed properly when in neutral. The actuator appeared to be in good condition. All the connections were corrosion free. Is there anyway to repair the actuator or have it rebuilt? There are used ones on Ebay for a few hundred bucks which is over $1000 less than a new. Also I can steal one from the port or starboard to make sure that the actuator is the problem. Are there any other recommendations out there? Thanks.
