Mercury 2020 60 hp 4 stroke efi. 1c602485

My cheap plastic coolant temp switch/sensor broke off in my exhaust cover. I need to know the thread size and pitch so I can properly clean the threads to install a new BRASS sensor.

Plastic coolant sensor
by: Kiwi ferg

Just wondering whether you had to take the exhaust cover off in order to replace the cheap plastic coolant sensor. Mine has broke the head off as I tried to remove it from the cover to test it. I have then tried to use a square ezi out extractor to remove the remaining part still stuck in the thread. I have managed to extract the treaded part, unfortunately the sensor it self must have broke off and fallen into the water jacket. At this point I could simply clean the thread and install a replacement coolant sensor into the cover plate only I'm concerned that the BIT'S I didn't manage to remove MAY clogg the cooling system. Looking at the manual it appears that the debris should only be able to flush out through the exhaust port in the prop. Has anyone experienced this and could advise as to whether it necessary to remove the exhaust cover to remove all the debris. I don't want any additional problems of removing the exhaust cover when it may not be necessary at all.

Coolant sensor brok

It’s been ordered, and It’s late getting here. Was just wanting to see if anyone knew the size already. I plan to use a thread gauge to find out exactly but would be nice to have the block ready for IF it ever gets here.

Buy the sensor and measure it.
