Mariner 115 efi runs rough max out at 3000 rpm
by: Anonymous

I had my 2002 Mariner 115 efi running rough and topping out at 3000rpm. Thought it might be fuel related as I have just put in E10 petrol. Replaced the fuel filter and water separator which had white dust in the glass. Replaced all plugs and still running bad. We fed the engine with E5 super unleaded direct from a can and no change. Took out the plugs and number 1 was wet and discoloured. Cleaned the plug and swapped pug two for plug one. Still bad on plug one. Then swapped out injector for number 1. Hey presto running smooth with idle dropped from 1000rpm to 750 rpm and max out at 4200 not stalling at 3000rpm anymore. So dirty fuel and poor maintenance of the filter/ water separator led to a choked injector.

Did you find the problem?
by: Mike

I have the same outboard and my problem is around 3500 rpm. It runs fine otherwise. If you did find a cure I would really appreciate you sharing the solution. Thanks, Mike

Suggest you check very carefully all parts of fuel supply system, from tank, tank vent if fitted, fuel hose and bulb, all connections for possible deterioration, maybe sucking air, if filter all clean then something else in system
