I have a 1992 Bayliner Trophy PDGPR22, it has a Alpha One 5.7 V8 230 hp with a Mercruiser Alpha One out drive. I purchased this boat I got no history on the boat.

When I’d take it to high speed it over heats to about 200 degrees.
I took it to a boat mechanic and he tried every thing even put a clear hose to it and seen it was sucking air from the out drive at high speed or a good plane.
Now is it a problem with the hull or is it a problem with the out drive. What they ended up doing is putting a hole in my boat and a pump on my motor and they are running raw water to the manifolds is that the right fix please let me know.
Thank you Fred

what happens on some older units is the water passage in the transom assy gets clogged with corrosion from age. The cure is install a thur hull fitting and use a belt driven pump to pump the water..so it sounds like it is fixed..
