Hard starting 4.3

I have a 93 4.3lx with low hours all in excellent condition. Everything ran fine one week. Push(engage) the throttle and it cranked right over. Boat was left covered on the lift for 3 weeks. When I returned, it was hard to start (easy cranking, no fire) and when it finally did start (after feathering the throttle), it would backfire out of the carb while underway with 1/4-1/3 throttle. Once it warmed up, it ran better, but still had hesitation when accelerating from a stop. Thoughts? Thank you
