The most common cause of fires in unattended boats are electrical ones. There have been plenty of incidents lately and you must isolate the electrical power going to the engine starter motor. What often happens is that water condensation and dirt forms a path and the voltage eventually tracks to ground and if enough current flows and heat generates you get a fire

Mercury Launch a New electronic tow system

Mercury Marine has launched the SmartTow system, which is an electronic system designed for accurate speed control for water sports. SmartTow comprises an rpm-based set-point control and the Mercury-patented Launch Control System. The Launch Control System has 5 pre-set launch profiles designed for different water sports, from tubing to wakeboarding to slalom skiing. Adrift for 9 Months!!

A real survival story, with 3 fishermen who after 9 months drifting across the Pacific Ocean in a small 8 metre open boat are rescued. They were fishing off Mexico’s San Blas when they ran out of fuel. The young shark fishermen say they survived on raw fish, seabirds and rainwater. Obviously thin and sunburnt, and very hungry but still in good health they said they never gave up hope as they saw boats pass by each week and would eventually be spotted. Marine AV in the UK have launched the SPK01SWI unit which allows your cockpit or flybridge external speakers to be switched off from a basic marine grade switch without affecting your internal speakers. The SPK02SWI is also configured to channel two music sources to a one pair of speakers. e.g a pair of saloon speakers is able to play the music from the Flybridge audio system or alternatively from the Saloon audio (Say your MP3) system with a simple switch operation without damage so you dont require an additional set of speakers.
