Transducer Workshop
One useful workshop run at the IBEX show was by Airmar Technology and a transducer workshop to assist boatbuilders understand the relationship between the correct positioning of transducers and overall boat and fish-finding performance. Entitled "Transducer Placement That Assures Great Fish Finder Performance". Many boats designed these days do not consider the optimal location for transducer placement, and as many site visitors state that how and where a transducer is installed has a major impact on the performance of the fish finder, and improper installations degrade sounder performance, but other issues also include cavitation, hull vibration, trim problems, and damaged running gear. If you are installing transducers really think about it and look at all the factors. Bookmark this blog-archive for further marine technology updates!

SeaTel
Seatel have launched a new satellite antenna. The new XX04
Direct Broadcasting System (DBS) provides satellite TV coverage at sea and has
enhanced range, higher performance and more accurate stabilization. The new
antenna can receive more than 200 TV channels and around 30 music channels from satellite TV companies around the world. For big boats the new system also provides reception to several screens at once, all tuned to different programs. It is available with a touch screen display that allows an operator to control the antenna position, satellite programming and video output from one easy button location. There are four available models (3004, 4004, 5004 and 6004) and they use SeaTel's Super Disc Reflection technology, to give improved signal gain and conservation for long-range cruising without signal loss. C-MAP
C-MAP has launched a new version of the PC-Planner navigational software that is compatible with Furuno charting systems. With PC-Planner, the owners of Furuno GPS chartplotters and multi-function instruments can now plan and view chart data, measure distances and create and edit routes at home, then transfer it to an onboard boat chartplotter. This capability is available to owners of the Furuno NavNet system and GP 1650/1850 models, as well as Furuno instruments that use Navionics cartography. The latest upgrade of PC-Planner allows creation of multiple copies of existing routes and can reverse, rename and create new routes from existing waypoints. Also boat navigators can turn off or hide user points without deleting them. A great new safety feature is the new anti-grounding alarm that will automatically check planned routes to ensure safe navigation based on user-defined criteria, such as the boats minimum draft.
