Best 7.5 or 9.8 for the buck for a 12 ft jon boat

Looking for advice on the best bang for the buck in picking a small (7.5-10 hp) outboard for a 12 ft jon boat. I'm hoping to spend under $700. Some mid 90s Johnsons and Mercs are out there. Recommended? The Nissans and Hondas are more $$. Is it worth it? Should I splurge for a 4 stroke? I heard a 4 stroke may be too heavy for my transom. Also is an electric start advisable? Thanks. |
