Becoming an offshore medic.

I will have all the relevent qualifications to become an offshore (oil rig) medic but I will not have had much (if any ) experience on ambulances or in hospitals or such like. Is there any chance of me getting a job as a medic on a rig or will i constantly be surpassed by ex - nurses and ambulance crew who have had years of on the job experience?
