alarm won't stop

1994 johnson 88 spl, started it yesterday no problem, disconnected gas line and ran gas out of motor but forgot to turn key off. 12 hours later awakened to alarm going off (steady alarm like overheating) disconnected battery, restarted it ran it for awhile but the alarm keeps sounding off. what gives??? ken |
