BLOG ARCHIVE - Fishing

Do you like fishing?

I do, but some people don’t! The anti-fishing activists People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PeTA) have recently petitioned a Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman to declare the channel catfish, Nebraska's state fish, off limits to fishing. This radical stance from PeTA, was part of a campaign started last year to ban fishing, maintaining it is a "cruel thing to do" and stated fish are "intelligent, sensitive animals no more deserving of being eaten than a pet dog or cat." The Governor fortunately rejected this, proves not all politicians are senseless

Fisherman catches a grenade!!

A great fishing story. Out in Lorain County, Ohio a local angler reeled in a live World War II grenade. He gave it to police for disposal. Lucky he didn’t catch it by the pin I guess! No account on what type of bait or fly used or any other gear details.

For trailerboaters!

DuraSafe Locks's Couplemate is a trailer alignment device which guides the trailer coupler directly over the hitch ball every time. This reduces dings and scratches to the tow vehicle, and even better eliminates the need to get in and out of the vehicle to check its position. DuraSafe Stops the bad Guys

If you want to stop the thieves then the DuraSafe Inc. has launched a unique lock that makes it a lot harder to seal GPS units and fish finders. The patent-pending lock is a knob that replaces the factory one that holds the equipment one each side within the mounting bracket or frame and they have seven models to fit the different knob thread sizes of the most popular marine electronics brands on the market - Raymarine®, Lowrance®, Eagle®, Garmin®, Vexilar®, Humminbird®, NAVMAN® and Furuno®. And looks like a cheap investment. Bookmark this blog-archive for further marine technology updates!

NEW ELECTRONIC HELM CONTROL

Company BRP have launched a new range electronic helm. Called I-Command, these instruments are designed to complement the Evinrude E-TEC engines. The I-Command system is plug and play technology and is also based on the NMEA 2000 standard. This allows faster information transfer from the engine and boat sensors. Multiple functions are also cleverly integrated into a tachometer and speedometer to display all data you need; including RPM, MPH, volts, fuel level, engine trim, oil level, water pressure, engine temperature, engine hours, engine diagnostics, and fuel flow.

The Boat Next Door

I had an interesting session with a boat moored next to me over the weekend, convinced all his batteries had just failed, then it was a relay energized from the alternator not charging the house batteries, and by the time I lead him through the whole system, it was just the alternator output that had failed on the auxiliary output. Smart battery switches are better value unless you use a properly rated solenoid or heavy duty relay powered directly from the ignition switch. Also the fellow having owned the boat a long time just didn’t know anything about the system configuration and I found loose sparking wires that required repair, and so on. Learn your boat and have an up to date diagram of main systems. Then it was back to my cold beer, spring is definitely here

THANKSGIVING IS OVER!

And how many of you tried to cook a turkey on their boat? not me. Still if you did you will have to suffer the turkey sandwiches all week on board, throw a happy hour onboard for the marina and serve up small sandwiches to them all. I have had the last two weeks staying on board my own boat, bliss! Favorite development try out was the WiFi internet access, really great and highly recommended method. I installed my new Whale pump system for the gray water drain system in the shower and works great, Gulper 220 pumps are the way to go and they have just come out with a bait livewell variant, so you fishing guys go look at this. Also had to intall a new satellite TV dish, why? well the reception module on the dish at degraded due to UV action and water flooded in ruining the electronics during some bad rain. Also started installing a new Eberspacher diesel heater, they are really good systems, and the kit comes complete, which is great.
