The boat motor runs great but seems like it is being held back (dragging) it seems to cava ate when I give it more throttle. Prop spins but is not pushing water it is sucking air.

I also feel you either have too big a prop, or the prop inner hub is slipping.Maybe try a 14"x 17 pitch that in good shape to see if it inproves.Watch you'r RPM's...Don't excead you'r engine's max recomended Rpm's at full throtle. If so, up the pitch some( maybe to an 18 pitch)to bring the RPM's back down to recomended spec's..If you arent getting up to recomended RPM's then go the other way by down sizing pitch to maybe a 14"x 16 pitch prop..It's a trial and error game mating the right prop with a motor. But too large a prop will bog you'r motor down, and too small of one will cause your motor to over reve...Nither is good for motor.

Make sure you have the right prop.
