I recently purchased a 24' Pontoon boat, before launching it I changed the oil, upon removing the filter I noticed it was dry and had no oil residue in it. Makes me ask if the oil pump is functioning, Is there a way to check the oil pump to see if it is working properly?

I attampted to post another post about the problem, but not sure it went through.

Test run

Ran the engine only for a very short time, engine sounded OK, have no idea what a dry filter means, engine oil drained and was very much in need of it.Haven't refilled until I see if I can get some answers as to why the filter had no oil.

Not a good sign, oil filters normally are wet with oil all the time, Perhaps fill oil filter with oil, replace and turn over the engine a couple of times and recheck the oil filter and see what remains. Oil pumps are fairly reliable, assume you didn't test run the engine before purchase.
